In the presence of protagonist Evrard Wendenbaum
Southeast of Sulawesi, Indonesia, explorer Evrard Wendenbaum returns to the Sombori archipelago, a territory he discovered ten years earlier and which he is now trying to save from the nickel rush. Together with Indonesian researchers from Halu Oleo University and the inhabitants of the coastal village of Mbokita, he is setting up a large multidisciplinary scientific mission to demonstrate the ecological and cultural importance of this unique region and obtain an official protection status.
In the field, botanists, zoologists, sedimentologists and marine biologists are multiplying protocols to measure sediment contamination. The results confirm an exceptional biodiversity including six new species of begonias, dozens of endemic fish, birds and mammals, but also a growing pollution related to mining.
Between science, exploration and ecological commitment, “Sombori, an expedition in an unexplored archipelago” reveals a world of beauty and fragility where each lost species is for the entire planet, a cry of alert and wonder at the accelerated disappearance of a paradise still alive.
