In the presence of the protagonist and director, Eliott Schonfeld

In 1968, a man named Richard “Dick” Proenneke left civilization behind, determined to fulfill his dream of returning to the wild. At the age of 51, he ventured deep into Alaska, where he built a cabin on the shores of one of the most remote lakes on the planet. He lived there for thirty years, surviving on fishing and foraging, with only grizzlies, caribou, wolves, and salmon as his neighbors.

It is this cabin at the edge of the world that Eliott Schonfeld set out to find, twenty years after Dick Proenneke’s passing. Inspired by the old man’s journals, the young adventurer retraces his footsteps across the lands of the Denai’na people. Day by day, he discovers a whole new world—one of extraordinary, free, and abundant nature.

Through this timeless journey, marked by dizzying ascents, raging rivers, and close encounters with grizzlies, he reminds us of the urgent need to protect this unique natural heritage, now threatened by human recklessness.
