In a Himalayan valley nestled at an altitude of 3500 meters, 13,000 souls live in harmony, cut off from the world during the long winter months. During this season, the only way to get to this valley is to follow the Tchadar, a frozen river, risking one’s life.
Fifteen years ago, Caroline Riegel fell in love with Zanskar, this sublime, rebellious valley where its inhabitants find themselves prisoners of the Great Himalayan Barrier when it is covered with a thick coat of snow. She lived there and discovered a peaceful, collective and joyful life. She experienced a winter where nothing was superfluous and laughter was omnipresent.
After her first trip, she decided to film the winter in this valley in order to bear witness to the Zanskar of yesteryear before it fades away completely.
