In love with images and the cold, the wildlife photographer Jérémie Villet travels alone through the white deserts of the northern hemisphere with his pulka and his telephoto lens, looking for animals that survive in extreme cold.

During his upcoming expedition in the Canadian North, Jérémie is about to explore the wild and extreme Yukon region, with the ultimate goal of photographing the legendary mountain goat. The difficulty of access to the mountain territories where this animal evolves and the freezing temperatures will make the task challenging.

Carried by adventures and unique human and animal encounters, this documentary allows us to enter the photographer’s intimacy and to approach with delicacy this changing world.

Direction: Guillaume PIERREL

See the trailer

In the 70’s, the pioneers explored the most breathtaking mountains in the Alps and Himalayas; 45 years later, the same passion has remained intact and alpine skiers decide to return on the trail of their ancestors. Their goal is to reach an altitude of 8000m with their skis, to then descend by the french route of 1975, their heritage. Their Elders are like angels, their songs carrying them to the border of Afghanistan, then to the “wall of light” in Baltoro, on the outskirts of China.

Welcome to our great adventure of sharing and friendship! ô’parizad! is an invitation to travel, a hymn to the love of the mountain throughout the ages.“

Crossing the American “continental divide” over nearly 29,000 km for two years and a half on a bicycle was the geographical challenge of Sophie and Jérémy, a passionate couple about the mountains. This watershed zone is located in the heart of the American reliefs: the Brooks, the Alaskans, the Rockies, the Sierra Madre and the formidable Andes mountain range.

In search of the soul of the continent, it is with the inhabitants who inhabit these mountains, with the mineral and the sedimentary that this couple experiences themselves in a geography of extremes. More than a bike travel film, it is an ode to geography, to the discovery of detail, to the understanding of relief, to the deep love for our planet. Go on an adventure at the heart of the great whole in this superb 55-minute documentary.

Prix spécial Ushuaïa TV

UN MONDE SOUS VIDE

Direction: Hervé Pfister

For the past eight years the Ushuaïa TV Channel has supported the festival by giving an award for best director, with the winning film being broadcast on the channel. The film is chosen by the editorial team of Ushuaïa TV.

Halfway between an environmental documentary and a travel film, “Un monde sous vide” is the story of an incredible tale across Europe.

From Tarifa to the North Cape, Fabien cycled 8,000 kilometers, trying to free himself from any plastic packaging. And give a voice to those people who, from one end of the world to the other continent, seek to free the planet from this stuff that suffocates it.

Through this singular experience, and by bringing together messages from scientists to those of citizens, Fabien invites us to question our consumption patterns, and more globally our relationship to the world.

“‘When one has always taken great care, one ends up falling ill by dint of being careful’. It would seem that Zarathustra, who pronounced this sentence in the first chapter of the third book of Thus Spake Zarathustra, would be received more cordially at the Festival Adventure & Discovery of Val d’Isère only at the health defense council. He, rope dancer, traveler of the absolute and dynamiter of conformisms has always encouraged his disciples to climb mountains rather than “take care of everyone to our comfort and our security”, as we say today in debilitating-managerial language.

Thank you to the travelers and adventurers who will follow one another this week on the festival stage. Thank you to them for continuing this year to travel the world, to contemplate its beauties, to celebrate life and adventure. On the seas, among the mountains, in the heart of the plains, “by the shores and by the fields”, they offered their existence an additional amount of life. They brought back a harvest of images and words, memories and lessons. They will offer them to us during the four evenings that we will spend with them. They will help us to understand the Earth better, to want to discover it more, to love it more perhaps. After the screenings, when we leave the convention center, what if we turn our eyes to the sky and ask ourselves, like the German poet Heinrich Heine: “Who lives up there in the golden stars”? we can address the president of the Jury, the physicist-philosopher (pleonasm) Étienne Klein. The Earth, the sky, life, time, space and adventure: Zarathustra would be happy because in Val d’Isère, we don’t “spare” ourselves.”

Versatility is his spearhead, and he loves all mountain pursuits, from skiing down steep, high-altitude mountain faces to solo climbing. Having just returned from completing the tricky “Rolling Stones” climb up the north face of the Grandes Jorasses, on his own in winter, he is already planning to develop new climbing routes, this time with his climbing partners.

ZANSKAR yesterday and today

Photos by Caroline Riegel - Centre de congrès

“The beauty of a glance, a landscape. Light from the sky, the snow. Caroline Riegel’s chiaroscuro images, inspired by the profound. Another world, away from the eight major concerns of modern society: pleasure and displeasure, success and failure, praise and criticism, fame and anonymity. The aim is not to have more, but to become better, be of more use to others, find peace in the simplicity of meditation.”

Ça me prend aux tripes.
